Hi there –  Janet here!

I wanted to share with you my latest transformation that has absolutely changed working from home. I worked with the wonderful teams at The Guardian and IKEA.

Whether you’ve always worked from home or you’re now adapting to hybrid working, having a designated workspace can make a HUGE impact on your productivity.

And I am not referring to the messy kitchen table, or the couch and definitely not your bed! – but let’s face it this has been the reality for most of us but this can be quite counterproductive.

Did you know having a designated workspace can help reduce distractions, boost productivity and improve your mental health? And it’s true! In fact 47% of  people who have already re-organised their homes feel a lot more positive working in them.

Ikea Life At Home Report

As someone who has been working from home for 9 years now, it was imperative to me that I could create a space in my home where I could work and relax in a clutter-free and peaceful atmosphere.

Having this space in my home that could be my sanctuary was the best decision I made for myself. I’ve now found that I am able to stay disciplined, focused on tasks longer and my headspace is not cluttered by my homespace.

Here are some of the ways that I was able to create a calming environment, which I hope you can also benefit from.

Lighting has played a big role in creating different moods – especially for hybrid spaces like mine. You can adjust this so it can suit your different needs. If you can try to face a window with natural light as this can help reduce eye strain too.

Plants also help bring energy to the room and help create a relaxing vibe.

I also believe that it’s worth investing in a good desk chair and having your monitor appropriately elevated for better posture.

But most importantly, make your space work for you. Why not accommodate for your personal hobbies or for some reflection time, you can even make this space into your own emotional escape room.

If you’re feeling inspired here are some great products to make the most of your work from home space:

FLÅDIS 25cm seagrass basket

All of our wires, adapters and chargers are now neatly stored out of sight in this gorgeous basket. Wires can be unsightly and easily contribute to overall clutter. The FLÅDIS basket is a great way to keep them out of sight and out of mind.
